= drafts.

FURTHER ACTION.

For Miss Ruston's signature.

Dear Mr. Grimwood,

Mr. Mayle has asked me to reply to

your letter of r'ebruary 22nd enclosing copies

С

of letters from Messrs. Preege, Cardew and

Rider about the disposal of a 2,900 line

telephone exchange for Hong Kong. There are

no papers in the Colonial Ofrice about this

matter which appears to have been conducted entirely by the Planning Unit and is we do

not know what, if any, guarantee was given by

Mir. Thomson to the Hong Kong Telephone

Company and what are the relations between

the Company and the Hong Kong Government, I

1 think that before asking Messrs. Preese,

Cardew and Rider to try and effect disposal

of this equipment, we should obtain
